If you are turning material 4″ or smaller you should take a look at Royal’s Quick-Grip series. These are extremely accurate and can be customized to accept hex or other shapes. In a production environment where you may have to change sizes often these could save you time and improve your setup accuracy. Also, by counter-boring the collet, you may be able to turn 5″ material in a 4″ chuck. Naturally, there are some part size considerations. However, in many cases it can solve a major problem and let you use existing equipment more effectively.
